Copper Theft Hurts Churches...What Can You Do To Protect Your Church?

Over the last few years, the rising per pound cost of copper has led to an epidemic in the theft of copper from air conditioning units. Churches are especially easy targets since their buildings sit idle many nights during the week and many of our churches are in rural areas where there is less traffic to deter thieves. SMCI has led the fight to make changes in the laws that will help curb copper theft and we have already seen the results. What can you do to protect your church? Top three suggestions: 1) If you have a monitored burglar alarm, connecting your HVAC units to the alarm is very economical. 2) Protective cages on your units are a great option that has also become more economical. 3) Make sure areas around HVAC units have good lighting. If you protect your units as recommended in suggestions 1 or 2, SMCI will waive your policy deductible in the event of a theft to HVAC copper.
